The forest covers over 88% of the region, and it is protected under Royal Manas National Parks of the total land.  Thus, making the region one of the country’s most ideal places to watch diverse birds, which are impossible to locate in other parts of the world. The diverse and undisturbed forests promote different habitats best suited for all types of birds to thrive in the mountainous terrain. It has made Bhutan a high bio-diversity conservation hotspot known as Eastern Himalayan hotspot.

Lower kheng is fortunate to have a pristine environment and virgin forests. The government’s commitment to preserving flora and fauna diversity protects the bird habitats. Bhutan's policy to maintain 60 percent of the total land under forest at all times assures the various habitats of birds and wildlife. This strong conservation policy may interfere with the economic development, but it has also provided the best and perhaps the rarest opportunity for tourism in Bhutan to showcase our untouched natural habitat to all the bird lovers and adventurers.
